Amelie Protscher, Pianist/guitarist/bassist/singer/composer/audio/video engineer
Amy moved to Berlin from Bavaria in 1999 and quickly gained a good reputation on the Berlin jazz, blues, and gospel scene. In the spirit of Charles Mingus and Rahsaan Roland Kirk, her playing fuses strong roots in the blues, gospel, and folk tradition with the inventiveness and openness of more modern jazz styles. She’s also developed a compelling “three-handed” solo piano style based on the contrapuntal explorations by Lennie Tristano and Dave McKenna.
Currently she’s working mostly as a soloist, with her trio Rag Doll which revisits the great jazz and blues singers of the 1920s, such as Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, and Alberta Hunter, and as the duo partner of American folksinger Namoli Brennet. She has appeared on about 15 album releases, both as an accompanist and under her own name.
She is also an accomplished and respected audio/video engineer who has produced and mixed numerous albums for other artists.
